{Goodbye 2009....and Hello 2010}

Two thousand and nine flew by faster than any year before it. I remember as a kid that I couldn't wait to grow up. Now that I am a mommy with my own child, I want time to slow down so that I can savor every second of it before I am faced with a teenager who wants me to drop her off a block away from school! Or even when I have to leave her for her very first day of school. {Sniff, sniff}

I have theorized that the reason that time flies by faster as a person gets older, is because it is relative. The thinking I have behind this is that our perception of time is relative to our experiences. As a five year old kid, we only had 5 years of life experiences and much of it at that point we couldn't remember anyway. A person later in life would have many more life experiences under their belt-- so, a day or a year is just a short amount of time for an adult compared to a day in the life of a child.

Theories about time, aside--they say that time also flies when you are having FUN!! Although 2009 was a tough year for our economy, it forced us to think out of the box, learn to adapt, and be creative. Along with the tough times, 2009 also brought many blessings. My daughter is "numero uno" on my list of blessings, but I was also truly blessed to have worked with so many fabulous couples this year who let me be a part of their special days. Thank you to each and everyone of you who allowed me to do what I LOVE for you. Thanks for allowing me to get to know you and allowing me to be creative!

I am excited to work with fabulous new couples and vendors in 2010. TJD will be coming out with some awesome new projects and promotions very soon, so stop by and visit to see what we have in store.

A special thanks to my family and friends (my hubby and mom especially) for being EXTRA supportive this year. I could not have done it with out you!

From me and my family at TJD to yours: Warm wishes and much love for 2010.

I'll leave you with a picture of my family taken just after Thanksgiving :)

Monica's Vintage Brooch Orchid Bouquet

Monica, one of my favorite newly wedded brides of '09, just posted a lovely picture of her bouquet on her blog, Eat, Drink & be Married. The picture was taken by her photographer Erica Berger. I am loving the vintage brooch we used on her bouquet all over again! Check out Monica's blog when you get the chance. She has a great eye for design and post wedding she has been blogging about home decor and DIY projects =)

Misoo Kim and Sung Chul Shin {11.21.09}

A good friend of mine from highschool, Teresa, told me that her friend Misoo would be calling me to discuss her wedding flowers. When she told me that Misoo's wedding was only a month away, I think my jaw dropped. When I met Misoo, she knew what she liked and didn't. She also let me be creative and just let me have at it so long as I stuck with burnt oranges and brown. I love how her bouquet came out and especially love the altar arrangements where I used vanda orchids and burnt orange football mums.

Misoo and Sung Chul were married at the Church of the Ascension in Saratoga and had their reception at Freedom Hall and Gardens in Santa Clara. I did one of my first weddings at Freedom Hall so it was hard not to be nostalgic. I didn't get to see much of the venue (I didn't arrange any of the reception centerpieces, but just dropped off pieces that were to be re-used at the reception) but from what I could see, they did a lot of renovating since then and it looks great.

Congrats Misoo and Sung Chul!

Kristy and Jimmy {11.14.09}

When I first met Kristy and her mom for a consultation over the summer, Kristy mentioned that she wanted orange flowers and that her primary color was navy. I remember thinking "orange--you had me at orange"! Needless to say, I really enjoyed working with Kristy. She was one of the most organized brides I have worked with yet.

Kristy and Jimmy were married at the beautiful Stanford Memorial Church and had their reception at the Garden Court Hotel in Palo Alto.

Congratulations Kristy and Jimmy!

I <3 Orange

Those who know me know that I LOVE orange! I had some extra flowers after a wedding over the weekend and couldn't help but put together a grouping of orange floral arragements in various glass containers. My favorite one is the orange tulips hanging off the side of a cylinder vase. It was easy to do and oh so pretty.

Baby Miller

Our dear friends Regina and Jason had their baby shower this weekend. I arranged some orange and green centerpieces for them to go with their oh-so-cute decor. Their sisters, Jennifer and Catherine, did such a great job putting everything together. I totally "heart" the little blue gum ball machine favors!! Congrats to Regina and Jason on their impending bundle of joy! We can't wait to meet little baby Miller.

Suzanne and Scott {10.24.09}

The day could not have been more lovely, this past Saturday, for a wedding at Testarossa Winery in Los Gatos. It was warm, but not too warm, and not windy at all like it usually is in the Fall. The winery was the perfect setting for Suzanne and Scott's wedding.

Although it was not planned, the floral arrangements were pretty eco-friendly. Many of the items used in the designs were items that were sustainable and/or re-usable. Suzanne mentioned to me that many of her guests took the manzanita branch centerpieces home with them. They make great pieces for the home!

I failed to bring my camera with me to Testarossa, but I did manage to take some pictures of the centerpieces with my iphone. They are not great pictures, but at least something until Suzanne and Scott's photographer, Ashley Maxwell, who is super sweet, has some photos available for me to share. Tuan says that my iphone pictures are horrible and that I shouldn't post them, but I am going to anyway =P

This is a picture of the table centerpieces:

The bridal party table arrangements were made of sandblasted grapewood, cymbidium orchids, reindeer moss, river stones, scabiosa pods, and mini lanterns. I actually had to tear these arrangements down and put them back up again due to a mishap with the color of the linens that were put down. Lydia and I had to work fast to get the arrangements back up, but the second time around was better, in my opinion. With lots of vendor team work, the event was overall a success.

For their escort card piece, we used wheat grass housed in a wooden box (crafted by Tuan) to hold the cards in place.

Tuan took some awesome pictures of the bouquets and boutonnieres prior to leaving for the site. I love the way he used the branches and the wheat grass as a backdrop. Suzanne's bridal bouquet was arranged with her favorite flower, tulips, with a handle made of leaves and twine (on my list of favorites). The leaves and twine were carried on in the bridesmaid bouquets as well as the boutonnieres which had twine wrapped around the stems.

Congratulations Suzanne and Scott!!

Pam and Irwin {10.10.09)

I did one of my very first weddings at The Decathlon Club. Pam and Irwin's reception which was held there this past Saturday on 10.10.09 brought back some great memories and gave me the chance to catch up with Lisa the wedding/events coordinator at the club. Lisa was and is still wonderful!

Here are some pictures of Pam and Irwin's wedding flowers.

The button mums in the boutonniere and pomander pictured here were deep dark red in color, however, in the picture they came out a brighter red. I wonder if it was the way the sunlight hit the flowers while I was taking the photo??

Pam wanted me to add some silvery accents to her bouquet, so I added some crystals to the black star cala lilies. I really loved the way her bouquet turned out. Congrats to Pam and Irwin!!

Grace & Paul {9.19.2009}

I am back from the "Wedding MBA" conference, where I learned sooooo much. It was great being in a room filled with hundreds of other wedding professionals. I am motivated to start applying the things we learned. Especially in the time management area....lol where they told us to stop with the checking emails constantly. I'm not sure I'm going to be able to break this habit. I love staying in touch with the brides.

Since my internet access at our hotel was, to say the least, horrible! I didn't get to post pictures of Grace & Paul's wedding from last week. Their wedding was held at a beautiful private home in the Los Altos Hills where the back drop of the bay area was just stunning. Zita and Jim's home was the perfect setting for Grace's wedding. The day was pretty HOT, but the infinity pool seemed to visually cool things off (I was tempted to jump in every time I walked passed it).

I am bummmmmed that I didn't get to take pictures of the bouquets, but at least I had the opportunity to take pictures of the ceremony flowers and reception decor. I absolutely loved the way the lanterns and succulents turned out on the kings table!

With the exception of the flowers,Dino Casazza, of Casazza Catering, provided the tables, chairs, linens, umbrellas and just about everything else for Grace and Paul's wedding. His team did a spectacular job! As I was walking by the prep station to move some arrangements around, they allowed me to sample a little bit of the walnut, Gorgonzola hors d'oeuvre thing they were serving--it was so yummy.

With out further ado...or is it further adieu?? With out further delay...here they are.

Ring and John {9.12.09}

It seems much longer now, but John and Ring's wedding was just last week! I totally forgot to post pictures! My schedule has been a bit crazy this past week preparing for a wedding which took place today and squeezing in meetings and consults before leaving for Las Vegas for the "Wedding MBA".

Here are some pictures that I took at John and Ring's reception which took place at the Dynasty in Cupertino. I loved the pink and brown lanterns that they hung all around the ballroom and the cupcake stand that I think John built him self. Andrea a friend of John and Ring's and a former client of mine helped bake the yummy looking cupcakes. I had to exert lots of restraint to keep from gobbling them all up as I was decorating the stand with flowers! The pomander ball I put together for the cupcake stand topper turned out real cute. I wanted to use pinkish button mums, but ended up using some light pink matsumoto asters.

Congrats John and Ring!!

Amber & Shaka {08.02.2009}

We just finished setting up Amber and Shaka's wedding at the Willow Heights Mansion in Morgan Hill. I have been very excited about Amber's wedding for some time now, ever since she contacted me back in October '08. She told me about her vison of lemons, white hydrangea and navy blue--I have since been in love with yellow and navy blue weddings!

All of the details came together really nicely. I have got to hand it to Amber as she and her mom, Glenda, DIY'ed most of of the details along with the help of some really good friends of theirs. You go ladies!!

Amber looked stunning!! Although we didn't get to take a picture of her and her lovely bouquet, we were able to take a quick shot of her new hubby. I could not wait to post the great pictures that Tuan took!! Enjoy!

Renei and Don 7.25.09

Renei and Don were married at the beautiful St. Joseph's Cathedral in San Jose and had their reception at the Corinthian Event Center. Their wedding was a blast--a blast from the past! Renei and I were friends from high school who lost touch after going our separate ways to college. It was so nice re-connect (thanks Facebook!) after all of these years. Renei asked me to do the flowers for her wedding and my husband Tuan to do the photography. It was one of the most memorable weddings I've attended. It was really special to be able to work a wedding and then partake in the reception where I was able to re-connect with other high school and Jr. high school friends. I had a wonderful time creating their flower arrangements and I know that Tuan had a great time shooting their pictures.

I guess it pays to be the photographers wife, as I was able to get a sneak preview of the pictures. Here are just some of the pictures of their flowers.

I probably say this after every bouquet I make, but Renei's monochromatic bouquet of pink peonies, rosita vendela roses, mini cala lilies, dahlias and sweet peas is going on my list of favorites I've made.

Thanks Renei and Don, for allowing us to create and photograph! But, most of all, thanks for allowing us to share in your joy and special day!

Monica & JD 7.18.09

I couldn't wait to post pictures of Monica and JD's wedding flowers. Their wedding was just yesterday (7.18.09)! Monica and JD were married at the very cute Church of the Wayfarer in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California. Their reception took place at the Monterey Plaza Hotel. The day could not have been lovelier. For the weather being so HOT in the South Bay, things were perfect sea-side.

We were going for a "vintage-garden" look and decided to have the escort cards and candy bar set on top of moss table tops. The outcome was better than I had imagined. For the centerpieces, Monica showed me a picture of a centerpiece that she loved using rusted urns and ivy. Our version of the centerpiece came out lovely and really pulled the "vintage-garden" look together.

Monica's bouquet had a combination of cattleya, phalaenopsis, and mini cymbidium orchids. Her bridesmaid bouquets were made of Juliet garden roses and for her flower girls we made cute little pomander balls made of white buttom mums.

I had a great time working with Monica and creating her beautiful arrangements! Congratulations Monica and JD!!

Monterey Bay Aquarium Wedding 5.24.09

When my ex-coworker and friend Michele told me that her mother was getting married I was delighted that she asked me to do the flowers. When she went on to tell me that it would be at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, I was ecstatic. It was such a unique place to get married and to get to see the aquarium after hours after all the other guests had left was awesome. We got to see the new sea horse exhibit with out all the traffic of the regular hours.

Steve and Annie were married right in front of the entrance of the Outer Bay and had the reception in the room with the large tank. It was breath taking! Tuan and I didn't have too much time to set-up the event (only 45 mins.) so we didn't get to take very many photos. Here are some of the pictures. I'll post more as soon as I get my hands on some.

Congrats Annie and Steve! Thanks for letting us share in your joy!

Claremont Country Club Wedding

The Memorial Day weekend started off with Yvette and Jonathan's lovely wedding at the Claremont Country Club in Oakland. They were married in the ballroom right in front of the fireplace, which evoked a romantic vintage feel.

As I was setting up, my husband Tuan took some lovely photos of the flowers I designed for Yvette and Jon. Yvette loved the mauve and sage tones of Old Dutch roses and used it as inspiration for her wedding colors. In her bridal bouquet, the Old Dutch roses were paired with the antiqued lavender of the Amnesia roses, which worked well with blush mini cala lilies, white cymbidium orchids, and vendela roses. The galax leaves around the collar of the the bouquets really complimented the colors well. I was in love with the pair of kissing balls that I made for her adorable flower girl. I can't wait to see more pictures from her wedding.

Congratulations Yvette and Jon!!

My friend Lana invited a few ladies over to her house for a "pinkalicious" baby shower for her soon to arrive baby girl. The food was awesome and the details were so cute in pink and green. Oh, and the cupcake....TO DIE FOR! I brought Lana two floral arrangements one for her buffet spread and the other for her coffee table which Sabrina of Sabrina Wong Photography captured beautifully along with the other cute details like the favors, cupcakes, and the menu and tags Lana created. Digging Aqua, Yellow and Green

I came across some lovely aqua vases months ago and finally got some flowers to go with them. I am really digging the way aqua, yellow, and green look together. Update...

I've been MIA from my blog for a while. Actually I've been on hiatus while obsessing over learning about the ins and outs of pregnancy while nurturing my impending bundle of joy. I am coming up on 39 weeks now and am expecting to give birth just about any day. Along with my new love for baby things, I am excited about this year's line up exciting couples and their upcoming weddings.

This year's wedding season for TJD will begin in early May (enough time to give me some baby bonding time) with weddings at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Saratoga Country Club, and Lafayette Park Hotel, just to name a few. I can't wait to share pictures!

I am really excited to be working with Monica on her "vintage romance" wedding at the Montery Plaza Hotel. She has a great eye for design and some wonderful ideas. Check out her awesome blog Eat, Drink & Be Married.
